ASHTON SIGN FORMER HALIFAX SKIPPER 29/08/2012
Danny Johnson, manager of Evo-Stik League Premier Division club Ashton United, has secured the signing of former Halifax captain Tom Baker.
This will be Baker's second spell at the club. He was initially signed by Scott Green during the 2006/07 season, but worked with current manager Danny Johnson at the back end of that campaign as the club saw off the relegation threat that was hanging over them.
He has since spent a very successful time as captain of FC Halifax Town, culminating in their promotion to the Blue Square Bet North in 2011. He started this season at Droylsden, but has made the short move to Ashton.
Johnson was obviously delighted to see Baker put pen to paper: "Tom will provide us with another dimension. His experience will help the younger lads and help us sustain performances. He has excellent leadership qualities and he understands the game.
"He has won this league and his personality will fit into our dressing room. Tom still wants to play at as a high a level as he can. Whilst he is with us we will be a stronger outfit. This move suits both Tom and AUFC."
Baker (pictured) is a vastly experienced, combative and skilful midfielder with great ability from dead ball situations and set pieces. He is a proven winner and knows what it takes to be successful at Ashton's level of the game.
