GREAT DAY FOR AFC WULFRUNIANS 16/09/2012
It was Second Round Qualifying time in The FA Carlsberg Vase on Saturday, with 316 teams all over the country bidding to progress.
AFC Wulfrunians enjoyed a fine away day at Pershore Town as they won 5-2. Danny Crudgington netted a penalty on 15 minutes and he grabbed his second nine minutes later.
It was 3-0 just before the break thanks to Liam Wilkinson but Ben Hayes’s strike five minutes after the interval gave his side hope. Hayes then netted another to set up a grandstand finale but Crudgington completed his hat-trick to make it 4-2 ten minutes from time.
And there was still time for Jake Webb to make it five in the dying minutes to complete a superb day.
Odd Down AFC were also among the goals as they thumped Cullompton Rangers 8-1, with Joe Vyner and Kai Simpson getting on the scoresheet against an off-colour Rangers side.
Liam Currell was on target to help Swansea to overcome United Services Portsmouth down on the south coast – but the hosts were unlucky not to force a replay when Danny Mycock hit the post. Currell made them pay by making it 2-0 late on and Paul Best added another.
There was a cracking Yorkshire derby, too, as Northallerton Town beat Silsden AFC 3-2.
Silsden took the lead largely against the run of play but Adam Emson’s eleventh goal of the season levelled things up on 29 minutes. Steve Butterworth then netted his fourth goal in a week to make it 2-1 to Northallerton but Kev Ryan equalised on the hour.
But Butterworth’s free-kick found Emson again and he made it 3-2 for Mark Fanning’s men.
Formby were in fine form as they beat Selby 5-1 away from home and Parkgate also enjoyed away day success with a 2-0 win at Ashton Town.
Elsewhere, Bottesford beat Colne 2-1, Rushden and Diamonds won 4-1 against Fakenham Town and Sandhurst smashed Milton United 6-1.
