MARINE SECURE DEVINE ON A CONTRACT 26/09/2012
Evo-Stik League Premier Division club Marine have secured the signature on contract of 18-year-old striker Matty Devine.
Devine (pictured) joined the club, signing for the Marine under-16s, two years ago and has steadily progressed through the Youth and Reserve teams until making the first team squad at the beginning of this season.
His early appearances in the pre-season friendlies against Tranmere Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Accrington Stanley and Rochdale impressed Marine manager Kevin Lynch and following talks with the player and his parents Devine signed a one year contract with an option last Wednesday night.
Marine Chairman Paul Leary said: “Matty has made an impact already this season with his pace and ability. He is a young player that shows a great attitude despite his age and he wants to continue to learn and develop as a footballer. We believe he has great potential and his efforts so far have fully justified him being rewarded with a professional contract.”
Marine Manager Kevin Lynch said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Matty who has really impressed me. He has a big future in the game and if he continues with the same rate of development he will achieve his potential and play at a much higher level. This is a clear example to all of our young footballers at Marine that if you have the ability, work hard and show the right attitude then you will be given a chance as Matty has done which is well deserved.”
