FA CARLSBERG TROPHY SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND DRAW 01/10/2012
The two ‘Thurrocks’ will meet in The FA Carlsberg Trophy Second Qualifying Round after the draw was made at Wembley on Monday morning.
East Thurrock United, based in Corringham, Essex, will welcome Ryman League Premier Division rivals Thurrock, from near Purfleet, to Rookery Hill for one of 36 ties due to be played on 27 October. The winners of each tie will receive £3,250 from The FA’s prize fund.
Wealdstone, Trophy winners in the ‘80s, reached the last four last season and started the new campaign with a 3-1 home win over Chertsey Town on Saturday, despite their goalkeeper missing the action due to an oil spill on the M25.
They’ll be hoping to avoid a slip-up in the next round, today’s draw having handed them an away draw at Merstham, a level lower in the Ryman League Division One South.
Currently 21st in the table, this Surrey side once played Brazil at Wembley!
Hednesford Town, Trophy winners at Villa Park in 2004, travel to Trafford and there’s an interesting Hampshire derby between AFC Totton and Gosport Borough.
