CLEETHORPES MOVE FOR EX-MARINERS YOUNGSTER 09/10/2012
Former Grimsby Town Youth defender Lawrence Heward has joined Baris Northern Counties East League Division One club Cleethorpes Town.
The Grimsby-born 20-year-old has joined the club officially, having left Evo-Stik League Division One South outfit Brigg Town.
Heward (pictured) comes from a family of successful Mariners – his uncle, Terry Donovan, and granddad, Don Donovan, both donned the black and white stripes for the first team.
He joined Brigg after missing out on a professional deal at Blundell Park last summer.
Boss Andy Liddle, who is hoping to announce another signing this week, is delighted Heward opted for a move closer to home.
"Lawrence has been at Brigg but things didn't work out," he said.
"He came down as a one-off earlier this season and enjoyed it.
"He can play anywhere along the back four. His best position is left-back.
"He's a quality defender that adds competition for places.
"He's a local lad and likes what we are doing – it's a credit to the club that he's prepared to drop down to our level with the hope of eventually moving back up."
