LAMBERT CARRIES ON
17/10/2012
John Lambert is to carry on as manager of Sussex County League Division One club Sidley United after having a dramatic change of heart.

Lambert (pictured) told the players and chairman Dickie Day he was resigning after the 6-4 loss at Loxwood on Saturday, a match in which the Blues led 4-1 at half time.

Day told Lambert to sleep on it and after talking with several trusted football acquaintances, Lambert has decided to continue.

Lambert said on Monday: “I resigned after the game (against Loxwood). I told Dick that was it and told the players I’d had enough. I just said ‘thank you for what you’ve done, that’s me done’.

“I got back at the club and Dick said ‘just sleep on it’ which I did and I didn’t feel much different yesterday morning really. I rang a couple of trusted people, Jack Dalton, Garry Wilson rang me, Dean White rang me.

“I still hadn’t made my mind up last night. I was wondering whether I’ve taken them as far as I can, but today I’ve stopped feeling sorry for myself and I’ve got the right hump.

“And when I’ve got the right hump, look out. I’ve never quite anything in my life and I’m carrying on. But it’s now going to be tougher; I’m going to make things tougher.”

Lambert took over at Sidley in summer 2009 and led the club to promotion from Sussex County Football League Division Two at the first attempt, a feat the Blues consolidated with successive mid-table finishes in Division One.
